Roughneck Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Roughneck Marine is a Dutch builder of rigid inflatable boats. The company started out in 2007 in RIB rallies, and that background still shapes the boats. They are recognisable by the multi-step hull that every Roughneck RIB carries. The hull is hand-laid in GRP and the tubes are made of ORCA Hypalon. For the Roughneck 1010 the yard worked with the Dutch studio Mulder Design. Many 1010s are built to order as tenders for superyachts, and individual boats have been made entirely in carbon fibre. The console and its top can be lowered to seat height so that the boat fits into a tender garage.
Our model records list three designs, all entered as RIBs. The longest-running is the Roughneck Tender 636 at 6.36 metres, built from 2011. The Roughneck 808 at 8.08 metres followed in 2013 and the Roughneck Tender 1010 at 10.1 metres in 2014. All three lines reach into the most recent build years, so the range is entirely current. The model numbers read like the length in centimetres: 636, 808 and 1010. No boat in the range is shorter than six metres, and with the Tender 1010 the yard reaches a size at which a RIB works as a craft in its own right for longer runs.
A stepped hull run hard at speed asks for regular checks. The steps and the area around them should be inspected for cracking in the gelcoat, and the transom for signs of stress from heavy outboards or sterndrives. Hypalon tubes last a long time when they are kept clean and out of constant sun, but seams and glued joints still need a look each season, as do valves and rubbing strakes. On a boat that has lived in a superyacht garage, check the lifting points and the cradle contact areas. Engine hours and service records matter more than the build year on a RIB of this type.
