Serious Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Serious Yachts is a Dutch builder of displacement motor yachts and trawlers with steel and aluminium hulls. Its range is split into two lines with telling names. Gently is the traditional one, with classic shapes and an unhurried displacement character. Brightly is the modern line with a crisper, bolder style. Both share the trawler look of a high bow, a wheelhouse and sheltered side decks, and the yard is known for taking great care over its paintwork.
Our records list 17 Serious models, all of them motor yachts. The Gently 36 and the Serious 13.80 open the list in 2006, and 15 lines reach the latest model years. Ten belong to the Gently line: the 36 and 36 Sport, the 40 Lausanne, the 45 and 45 Low Bridge, the B 52, the 50, 57 and 60 Trawlers and the 66 Patrol. Six carry the Brightly name, from the 1260 and 1260 Convertible to the 1500, the 1530 and the faster 1530 Fast and 1600 Fast. Brightly numbers give roughly the length in centimetres, Gently numbers the length in feet. Sizes run from 11 metres (Gently 36) to 20.8 metres (Gently 66 Patrol).
These are berth boats built for long passages on rivers, lakes and coastal waters, often with weeks spent aboard. A steel hull wants regular checks of its coating and anodes, and aluminium needs attention wherever other metals touch it. The Low Bridge version shows what many owners have in mind: inland routes with fixed bridges, where air draft matters as much as length.
