Worth knowing
Spiro Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Spiro Yachts is listed in our records as a builder of large motor yachts. We have no verified source on its home, founding or designers, so this page sticks to what the model data shows. Two families of names define the range: the Spiro models of the 1980s with four digit numbers such as 1500, 1800 and 2100, roughly the length in centimetres, and the Crabbersbank series from 1997, whose numbers 52 to 70 are close to the length in feet. The Crabbersbank 56 also exists as the 56 Steel, a name that points to a steel hull, and the Spiro PB 40 is the single sailing yacht in the list.
Our model records hold nine Spiro Yachts designs, eight motor yachts and one sailing yacht. The Spiro 1500 and 1800 are recorded from 1984 to 1992, the Spiro 2100 from 1984 to 1991 and the Spiro PB 40 from 1985 to 1992. The five Crabbersbank models 52, 56, 56 Steel, 60 and 70 follow from 1997 to 2005, leaving a gap from 1993 to 1996. Lengths run from 12.3 metres (Spiro PB 40) to 21.5 metres (Spiro 2100), and eight of the nine models measure 15 metres or more.
These are yachts on a different scale from a weekend boat. They live on a permanent berth, need heavy lifting gear for a winter ashore and often travel long distances along the coast or on inland waterways. With the latest build years around 2005, their condition depends on how well systems, engines and interiors have been kept up to date. A professional skipper or an experienced crew is a common sight aboard boats of this size.

Crabbersbank 56 Steel by Spiro Yachts and further series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.

On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
