Stamas Yachts is at home in Tarpon Springs, a harbour town on Florida's Gulf coast. The story goes back to 1938, when the brothers Peter and Nicholas Stamas built a 22-foot wooden cabin cruiser. They founded the yard in 1952. In those early years they built tough boats for the charter skippers who took anglers out to deep water from Tarpon Springs. Stamas was working with glassfibre during the fifties, and by 1959 the switch away from wood was complete. The company is still run by the family. The yard is known for offshore fishing boats, and the Tarpon 310 is one of them, a centre console made for the open sea.
