Worth knowing
Tarquin Boat Co Ltd.; cover, cost and conditions
The Tarquin Boat Company was a British family business that sold Trader motor yachts. The yachts themselves were built in Taiwan by Kha Shing Enterprises, the yard behind Monte Fino. After Tarquin went into administration in 2009, a successor company took over the name, and three models, the 64 Sunliner, 575 Signature and 535 Signature, carried on as the Monte Fino T range. A Trader is identified by the number in its name: two digits roughly give the length in feet, three digits the length in tenths of a foot, while Signature, Sunliner, Sundeck and Superyacht describe the layout and size class.
Our model records list 26 models under the Tarquin name, all classed as motor yachts. Build years run from 1968 to 2013, and none continue into current production. Lengths span 12.6 to 37.1 metres, half of them between 15.4 and 19.8, with a median of 17.2. The earliest is the Tarquin 60, built from 1968 to 1977 at 19 metres. The classic Trader series has eleven models from the 41+2 at 12.6 metres to the 77 at 23.5. From 1997 five Signature and five Sunliner models followed between the 445 and the 625, or 13.6 to 19.6 metres, together with the Superyacht 70, 85, 95 and 120, the largest at 37.1 metres.
Every Trader on the water today is a used yacht, often with several owners and many sea miles behind it. Value turns on engine hours and overhauls, the condition of teak decks and windows, and how well the systems have been updated. A documented service history counts for a great deal.
