In our records Taurus stands for a family of motor yachts whose models appear in three layouts: sundeck with a raised aft deck over the owner's cabin, pilot or pilothouse with an enclosed wheelhouse, and sedan with the saloon on one level. The number gives roughly the length in feet, so a Taurus 45 is about 13.7 metres and a Taurus 55 about 16.5 metres. Later years replace the written names with short suffixes such as S, SD and PI. Alongside are sportier models such as the Flying Tiger and Flying Panter and two small motorboats, the Taurus 16 Jet and the Taurus 22.

Our model records list 37 Taurus models, 35 motor yachts and two motorboats. Build years run from 1987 to 2005 in two phases: until the mid nineties the models with names written out, such as 45 Sundeck, 52 Sedan or 58 PMY, and from 1996 the series with the S, SD and PI suffixes plus the large 60 Commander, 68 Admiral and 72 King Size. Lengths run from 5.1 to 21.7 metres, half of them between 13.7 and 16.7 metres. The 52 line is the most densely recorded, with nine entries.

These are mostly yachts of twenty to almost forty years with substantial engine rooms. At this age a current survey and a record of the engines, their power and hours say far more about a particular yacht than the model name.
