Triac Composites is the yard behind the Rapido trimarans. Paul Koch and Richard Eyre set it up in Vietnam in 2014 specifically to build the Rapidos, and the plant sits in Ho Chi Minh City. Koch had previously run Corsair Marine, maker of folding trimarans, together with James Sganzerla from 1994 to 2010. The boats are designed by Morrelli & Melvin, and the yard turns those designs into composite structures using CNC milled moulds and an autoclave. Slim floats, a wide stance and a name that gives the length in feet mark every Rapido.
Our records hold six entries for five model names, five sailing trimarans and one power trimaran. The Rapido 40 is listed twice, at 12 metres from 2018 to 2022 and at 12.84 metres from 2018. The 15.24 metre Rapido 50 is the oldest, starting in 2017. The Rapido 60 and the Rapido 60 Power both measure 18.1 metres and start in 2018; the Power is the only motor trimaran. The 19.2 metre Rapido 63 follows from 2022. Apart from the shorter Rapido 40 entry, every line runs into the latest build years.
These are boats for fast passages and long voyages, and their width shapes daily life. A multihull berth or an end of pontoon spot is often needed, and lifting out calls for a yard used to wide beams. Composite structures like regular checks of bonded fittings, the rig and the float connections, and a dry winter ashore helps the gear last.
