Westline builds its boats in Trollhättan in western Sweden; despite the English sounding name, this is a Swedish yard. The range consists of motorboats and smaller motor yachts with cabins, open as Sport or with a fixed roof as Sport Coupé. A test by the Swedish news site Dagens PS describes the 360 Sport Coupé as an eleven metre cabin cruiser with a deep V hull of 24 degrees deadrise that gets onto the plane at just twelve knots. The test boat ran a single Volvo Penta D6 on a duoprop drive, and twin installations are offered as well. According to the yard, buyers can have a say in the interior and the choice of materials, so two Westlines of the same type need not look alike.
Our model records hold eleven Westline designs, seven listed as motor yachts and four as motorboats. The oldest is the Westline 24 WA at 7.5 metres, recorded from 2002 to 2009. Five models carry the Sport label, from the Westline 25 Sport to the Westline 360 Sport, and four the Sport Coupé label: the 34, 360, 365 and 440. The Westline 25 Family completes the list. Lengths run from 7.5 metres for the 25 models and the 24 WA to 13.41 metres for the Westline 440 Sport Coupé, which our records list as a motorboat. A fast planing hull asks a lot of its drive. On a used Westline, have the sterndrive inspected: bellows, gimbal bearing and the counter rotating propellers of a duoprop leg wear with hours and with salt water. Service records for the diesel matter more than the gloss of the gelcoat. On Sport Coupé models, check the roof hatches and their drains, since a blocked channel lets rain into the cabin. Boats used among the skerries can carry scrapes along the keel line from rocky shores, so look at the hull out of the water. It also helps to know whether the boat spent its winters ashore and indoors.
