Lehmann Yachten GmbH built its motor yachts at Groß Leine in Brandenburg, eastern Germany, and built them in steel, hull and superstructure alike. Broker descriptions of the Lehmann 1100 S mention a hard chine hull and a boat that runs well at both high and low speed and is fit for trips at sea. For the Lehmann 1200, according to one sales listing, the yard relied on calculations and towing tests at a naval research institute and ended up with a fully framed semi-displacement steel cruiser. Typical signs of the marque are the angular chined steel hull, an inside helm and, on many boats, a second helm up on the flybridge.

The Lehmann 1200 starts first, in 1989, and runs to 1997. The Lehmann 1000 and Lehmann 1100 both appear in 1990; the 1000 ends in 1998, while the 1100 lasts until 1999 and has the longest run of the four. The Lehmann 47 also dates from 1990 and stayed in production until 1997. Lengths climb in almost exact steps: 10 metres, 11 metres, 12 metres and finally 14.7 metres for the Lehmann 47, the largest boat the yard built.

Steel is forgiving but it does need watching. On a yacht that is now at least twenty five years old, the key questions are the state of the paint system below the waterline, hidden rust in bilges and behind tanks, and the condition of the anodes. A survey with ultrasonic thickness readings tells far more than a glance at the topsides. Twin diesels, bow thruster, generator and warm air heating all add up to a lot of machinery to check. Boats of this type are well suited to rivers, canals and inland lakes as well as coastal trips.
