Zebec Boats; cover, cost and conditions
In our records Zebec stands for inflatable boats and nothing else. The range runs from a small one man boat and an inflatable kayak up to a five metre inflatable, plus rescue versions in the Armada series. Like most inflatables they are light and pack down small: deflated, many fit into a car boot, inflated they carry a family, fishing gear or a small outboard. The names give the size. In the SB, ST, Seabon and Armada series the number is roughly the length in centimetres, so the SB 330 is 3.3 metres long and the Armada 380 3.8 metres, while the one and two man boats carry a value with K instead.
Our model records list 20 Zebec inflatables in six groups: five each in the SB and ST series in sizes 330, 360, 390, 420 and 500, four Armada models including the Rescue 420 and Rescue 480, two Seabon, three small personal boats and the Kayak CK 200. SB, ST and the personal boats run from 1995 to 2003, the Seabon, the kayak and three Armada models from 2000 to 2007, and the Armada 380 from 1995. Lengths range from 2.8 metres for the One man 9,5K and Seabon 270 to 5 metres for the SB 500 and ST 500. Six boats stay under 3.5 metres, eleven sit between 3.6 and 4.24 metres and three measure 4.8 or 5 metres.
An inflatable lives a different life from a hard boat: it is pumped up at the shore, used for a day and rolled up again. The tubes last longer when they dry fully before packing and spend the winter loosely folded, cool and away from sunlight. A check of valves and seams before the first trip of the season is time well spent, especially on boats that are now well over fifteen years old.
