Zenit Yachts S.r.l.; cover, cost and conditions
Zenit Yachts is a small Italian yard from the north of the country, on the Adriatic coast near Venice, founded in 2003. Its first boat was the Zenit 44 Open, an open sports cruiser with shaft drive. The 45 Hard Top followed on the same lines, adding a fixed roof over the cockpit. The styling came from the Delta Lab Italia studio, and in 2007 the yard moved both yachts over to Volvo IPS pod drives. The 44 Open is known for its long, low profile; the 45 HT for a roof that reaches far forward and seems to float above the foredeck. Below, Zenit offered a full beam owner's cabin, a generous saloon and a tender garage aft.
Our model records list three designs: two motor yachts and one small motorboat. The Zenit 44 Open is listed from 2003 to 2011 and the Zenit 45 HT from 2003 to 2012. Both measure 13.6 metres and share one hull; the roof is the difference. The Zenit 555 motorboat measures 5.4 metres and appears from 2004 to 2010. None of the three lines reaches the most recent build years, and the recorded designs end in 2012. The weight of the range clearly lies with the two yachts of just over 13 metres. Anyone looking at a used Zenit should ask about the drive first, since pod versions were offered from 2007 and earlier boats run on shafts.
A pod driven yacht needs a different service routine from a shaft boat. The pods want regular oil and seal checks, anodes on the units must be replaced on time, and the joystick system should be tested in the harbour before any trip. On older shaft boats, look at cutless bearings, stern glands and propeller alignment. A full beam owner's cabin and a tender garage mean hatches and garage doors with seals that age in the Mediterranean sun, so check them for leaks. Many Zenits spend their lives on the Adriatic as weekend cruisers, which means relatively few engine hours but lots of sun on the upholstery and canvas.
