How the place works
On a narrow fjord, ferries to Scandinavia, naval units, cruise ships and, in summer, several hundred racing boats share the same water. The channel is tight, the commercial vessels are bound to it, and the restricted area off the naval base adds to it.
What breaks there
The classic is a racing fleet crossing an outbound ferry and the collision that follows an avoiding manoeuvre under spinnaker. Add suction and wash damage to boats lying near the bank when a large ship passes.
What this means for your policy
Anyone sailing during Kieler Woche should know how the policy treats racing: some sets of conditions exclude sail and rig damage in competition, others do not. And for a collision with a commercial vessel only the liability limit counts.
