Cascais bay lies between Cabo da Roca and Cabo Espichel, four miles west of the entrance to the Tagus. Through the summer the Nortada blows from the north almost daily, building through the afternoon to force 6 and more on open stretches. A bar runs across the mouth of the Tagus, and when swell meets a southerly wind the seas break on it, hardest around low water. Springs give more than three metres of range, and the ebb sets against the Atlantic swell.

Berths, season and winter storage
The area works all year and berths sit in the upper price band: Cascais, with over 600 berths, is the dear address, while the docks up in Lisbon cost less for a longer stay. Boats mostly winter afloat in a mild climate, and the yards for a lift out lie up the river opposite the city. Winter depressions push onshore wind and swell into the bay, so lay out warps for movement rather than for calm.
What this means for your policy
Lisbon and Cascais fall under the cruising range for the European Atlantic coast, so a policy written for home waters and the near continent may stop short of it. Two questions belong to the contract: does it name grounding on the bar and the tow that follows, and does it answer while the boat lies unattended through the winter?
