Aicher-Egner GmbH; cover, cost and conditions
Aicher-Egner, better known as Flyer Catamarans Aicher+Egner, is a Bavarian builder of fast racing catamarans. According to Catsailing News it has been building A-Class cats, the 5.49 m singlehanded class, for more than thirty years. The firm is known for experimenting: its Formula Flyer, a foiling cat for light wind lake sailing, is full carbon, weighs 90 kg in total and uses in-house foils with asymmetric sections. These are open racing boats without a cabin.
Our model records list five Aicher-Egner models, all sailing catamarans. Three sit at A-Class length: the Flyer F5 and the XL-Cat at 5.49 m and the Flyer FF at 5.5 m. Larger are the B-Cat at 6.1 m and the C-Cat at 7 m, named after the catamaran classes. The Flyer models are recorded from 2015, the B-Cat, C-Cat and XL-Cat from 2016, and all five run into the latest build years.
A racing cat lives on its trailer between regattas, so a good tarpaulin, tie-downs that do not press on the hulls and careful rigging and de-rigging matter more than a marina berth. Carbon beams, foils and trampolines are worth inspecting after every season, and a dry winter indoors protects both.
