BaltiCat Werft GmbH; cover, cost and conditions

BaltiCat Werft GmbH is a northern German yard building cruising catamarans of 12 to 15 metres, alongside houseboats. Hulls are made in epoxy using vacuum infusion with carbon fibre, which keeps them light and stiff. Since 2014 the yard has concentrated on catamarans drawn by the Australian studio Schionning Designs. Two generations show in the names: older models are called BaltiCat with a number roughly giving feet, some with the suffix FC, while the newer Arrow models count in centimetres.

Our model records list seven BaltiCat sailing catamarans. The oldest are the BaltiCat 40 (12.2 m, 1989 to 1996), the 42 FC (12.87 m, 1992 to 2010) and the 47 FC (14.1 m, 1997 to 2005). The BaltiCat 43 (13.1 m) starts in 2005 and the 50 (14.98 m) in 2010, followed by the Arrow 1200 (12 m) and Arrow 1500 (14.95 m) from 2017. Four of them, the 43, the 50 and both Arrows, run into the most recent years. Lengths go from 12 metres to 14.98 metres, and the records span more than three decades.

These are boats for long passages, from the Baltic to warmer seas. A catamaran needs a wide berth or an outside mooring and a yard with a lift able to take its beam. Epoxy and carbon reward careful handling: check the laminate after any hard contact, and keep the boat dry and ventilated ashore in winter.
