C-Katamarane; cover, cost and conditions
C-Catamarans is the multihull brand of Comar Yachts, a yard in Fiumicino near Rome. Its roots go back to 1961, when it opened as Sipla in Forlì. In 1971 it launched the Comet series of racing yachts, drawn by Van Stadt together with Groupe Finot, and on the back of that line the company took the name Comar. Massimo Guardigli bought the business in 1998 and still runs it. As demand for multihulls grew, he steered the whole yard towards the new C-Catamarans brand. The boats show their intent in slim hulls, generous bridgedeck clearance and daggerboards, aiming to combine cruising comfort with real sailing pace.
Our model records list one design under this brand: the C-Cat 48 sailing catamaran at 14.8 metres, with build years from 2018 to 2022. She followed the smaller C-Cat 37, which does not appear under this brand in our records. The French designer François Perus drew the 48, giving her C-shaped daggerboards meant to carry part of the weight at speed; the quoted displacement is just under ten tonnes. The yard offered her in two specifications. As the entry ends in 2022, none of the brand's lines reaches the most recent build years.
A 48 foot performance catamaran asks for attention in a few specific places. Daggerboards and their cases take heavy loads and can show wear or impact damage, so a survey of a used boat should include them, along with the rudder bearings. Check the bridgedeck underside for slamming marks and the crossbeam fittings for movement. Lightweight construction rewards keeping the payload down, which matters for long passages when tanks and stores are full. A boat of this size and pace is built for longer passages rather than short weekend hops.
