Canyon Bay; cover, cost and conditions
Canyon Bay builds fishing boats in Perry, Florida: fibreglass centre consoles with shallow draft, some with a deep V hull for open water, others as flats boats for bays and skinny water. Hulls are hand laid with vinyl ester resins and a moulded stringer system. Typical options include a T-top with a fibreglass hardtop, a poling platform, a tuna tower and an aluminium trailer, with big outboards on the transom.
Our model records list 13 Canyon Bay designs, twelve motorboats and one motor yacht. Six form the four digit range: 2165, 2270, 2375, 2400, 2470 and 2475, recorded from 2007 to 2017 (the 2165 from 2010). The other seven are the Canyon Bay 18, 22b and 28 h and the Model 18f, 24b, 24h and 35n; five of them run into the latest build years. Lengths range from the 5.27 metre Model 18f to the 10.66 metre Model 35n. Eleven models sit between 5.27 and 7.25 metres.
These boats are built for the Gulf coast routine: trailer to the ramp before sunrise, run across the flats, pole into shallow water. Rinse the hull, engine and trailer after every salt water trip, and flush the outboard. Electronics, trolling motors and rod holders take a beating from sun and spray, so a tarpaulin and a garage or carport help between trips.
