Catathai is a catamaran yard in Thailand, set up in 2004 by Hervé Le Touzé, who had arrived in the country under sail aboard his own large catamaran. For years the boats were built on Koh Siray island off Phuket; since September 2019 the yard has worked from the Seaman Yachts site in Prachuap Khiri Khan, about 300 kilometres from Bangkok. It builds cruising multihulls under sail and power, grouped into named lines: Andaman, Tropical Cruise, Coastal Cruiser and Power.
Our records list 17 Catathai designs: 13 sailing catamarans, three power catamarans and the 50 Power, which the data files as a motor yacht. That makes four Power models (29, 34, 45, 50) and four Andamans (39, 42, 49, 50). Tropical Cruise comes as the 34, 36 and 60, Coastal Cruiser as the 18 and 29, joined by a 29 CC, while the 40, 44 and 50 Grand Voyage carry no line name. The Catathai 40 is the earliest, from 2011, and three lines reach the latest model years. Lengths run from 8.5 metres (18 and 29 Coastal Cruiser) to 18 metres (Tropical Cruise 60).
Two hulls mean a wide beam, so a Catathai often needs an end berth or a mooring, and a yard with a travel lift wide enough to take it. In return it lies flat at anchor and offers plenty of room for long stays aboard. Owners who use one for extended passages should check the bridgedeck, the rigging and the saildrives or shafts after every season.
