Worth knowing
CEC Catamarans GmbH; cover, cost and conditions
CEC stands for Catamaran Europe Central, a company founded and still run by Ernst-Michael Miller, who also heads development; the engineering work is based in Munich. The boats are sold under the iFLY name and share one idea: small catamarans that lift onto hydrofoils. The iFLY15 was conceived as a foiler from the first sketch in 2015 rather than adapted from a conventional beach cat. Gilbert Saint-Blancat drew both the wave-piercing hulls and the carbon T-foils. The tell-tale signs are the slim hulls and a T-foil under each one, with the control mechanism, called FlySafe, hidden inside the hulls where it keeps the boat level in pitch and roll.
Our model records contain one design, the iFLY15, listed as a sport catamaran under the code SPCAT and measuring 4.63 metres. Entries start with build year 2017 and continue into the most recent years, so the boat is still being built. According to the maker the production boat is about 2.55 metres wide and weighs roughly 90 kilograms. It can be sailed singlehanded or by two. A light gennaker named Code F helps the boat take off in little breeze, quoted at around Force 2. With this single design the brand occupies a narrow and very light corner of small-boat sailing.
Foils and the FlySafe control want regular care: rinse them in fresh water, look for chips on the front edges after every launch, and keep the moving flaps free of sand and weed. On a used boat, check the carbon foils for impact damage and ask for the service history of the control system. Hull joints and beam fittings take a lot of load when the boat flies, so look closely at them too. Most owners trail the boat to a lake or beach, which makes a light, well-padded trailer part of the package.

Series by CEC Catamarans GmbH, build years and cover
iFLY15 is an open catamaran from CEC Catamarans GmbH, built since 2017.
As the iFLY15 by CEC Catamarans GmbH series is still in production,
parts are available and repairs are predictable.
Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.
For the iFLY15 by CEC Catamarans GmbH series: Open catamarans are beached and trailed,
so most damage happens ashore and in transit, not on the water.
