CR Yachts Orust AB; cover, cost and conditions
CR Yachts is a family business in Henån on the island of Orust, on Sweden's west coast, founded by Charles and Marita Rutgersson. Orust has been a boatbuilding island for generations and several Swedish sailing yacht yards sit close together here. CR builds cruising yachts largely to each owner's specification, with fine joinery below and good sailing manners. The yachts are identified by the letters CR and a three digit number that roughly gives the length in feet times ten; many models also come as a DS version.
Our model records list 24 CR Yachts models, all sailing yachts, with model years from 1987 and three still in current production: the CR 385 DS, the newer CR 440 DS and the CR 490 DS. Lengths range from 9.45 to 15.25 metres, with half of them between 11.7 and 14.6 metres. The smallest is the CR 310 at 9.45 metres, followed by the CR 360, 370, 371 and 380 DS at 11 to 11.5 metres, the 400 and 410 at about 12 metres, and the 440 to 480 at 13.2 to 14.65 metres. The CR 490 DS measures 14.8 metres, the early CB 370 11.4 metres and the Mission 50 15.25 metres.
A CR is usually a highly individual cruising yacht that stays with one owner for many years and covers long distances in northern waters or further afield. Value rests on the specification chosen when she was built, the condition of the joinery and teak, rig and sails, engine hours and how thoroughly she has been maintained by her yard.
