Current Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Current Marine is a South African yard that builds fast cruising catamarans. Its calling card is the CM 46, drawn by the Australian office Schionning Design. The boat is built entirely in carbon, and even the structural cross-beam that ties the two hulls together is a single composite part. On the pontoon a CM 46 stands out through its inverted bows, a coachroof pushed well aft and a pair of deep daggerboards that let it point high upwind. The interior is kept deliberately simple to save weight. Besides the CM 46 the yard lists two larger sisters, the CM50 and the CM53.
Our model records hold one Current Marine design, the CM 46 sailing catamaran. It appears from build year 2018 and the line runs into the most recent build years, so it is part of current production. At 14.2 metres it sits among the cruising catamarans that owners take on long passages. The source gives a beam of 7.4 metres and a displacement of around 6.5 tonnes, which is light for a catamaran of this length. The larger CM50 and CM53 are not yet in our records, so the figures on this page refer to the CM 46 alone.
A light carbon catamaran rewards careful owners. Daggerboards and their cases deserve a close look after every season, since a grounding or a floating log loads them hard. Carbon laminate hides damage well, so a buyer of a used boat should ask for a survey with tap testing or thermal imaging around the beam, the board cases and the chainplates. A big rig on a light boat means sail handling matters: reefing early keeps loads on mast and beam within reason. Many CM 46 owners plan ocean crossings, so the condition of rigging, autopilot and steering gear tells a lot about how the boat has been sailed.

Series by Current Marine, build years and cover
CM 46 is a cabin catamaran from Current Marine, built since 2018.
As the CM 46 by Current Marine series is still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the CM 46 by Current Marine series:
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
