Dalpol; cover, cost and conditions
Dalpol Yacht is based in Siemianowice Śląskie in Upper Silesia, deep in inland Poland. The company started building boats in 2001, when it took over the mould of the Focus 690. From there grew the Phobos range: compact cabin sailers whose number roughly matches their length in feet, from the Phobos 18 to the Phobos 29. They are boats of a size that Poland builds in large numbers and that sail lakes and coasts alike. Alongside the sailers, Dalpol offers one powered model, the Phoenix 800.
Our records hold 14 Dalpol entries: 8 sailing boats, 5 sailing yachts and one motor yacht. The Phobos range spans the 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 24.5, 25, 27 and 29, from 5.3 to 9.15 metres; the 24.5 appears twice, once as a sailing boat and once as a yacht, and the 18 has a second entry without the Dalpol prefix. The older Focus 660 and 690, at 6.6 and 6.9 metres, are listed from 1993 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2013, and the 8.3 metre Phoenix 800 from 2013. Ten entries, including every Phobos size, reach the most recent build years.
Most Dalpol boats are trailer sailers at heart. Up to about eight metres they travel on a road trailer, so a lake holiday and a coastal week can follow one another without a long delivery trip. Lifting keels and kick up rudders make shallow bays accessible, but they deserve a regular check of lines and pivots. In winter the boat rests best on its own trailer, mast down and cockpit tented.
