Douglas Marine Corporation builds Skater racing catamarans in Douglas, Michigan, under Peter Hledin, who still runs the yard. A Skater has two slim hulls with a tunnel between them that traps air; at speed the cushion lifts the boat until only a small part stays in the water. Hulls are made from epoxy and carbon fibre, and each boat is finished to order. The look gives it away: a long, flat profile, a low cockpit and big engines at the stern. The number in the name is the length in feet, and Race Pleasure means a race hull with leisure fit-out.
