Worth knowing
DSB Deutsche Schlauchboot GMBH; cover, cost and conditions
Deutsche Schlauchboot, known as DSB, was founded in Berlin in 1931 by Hans Scheibert. With its plants in the Soviet zone after the war, it opened a new factory in Eschershausen, Lower Saxony, in 1951 and is still based there. Besides leisure inflatables it makes life rafts for shipping, and since 2001 it has belonged to the British Survitec Group. Names follow two patterns: SR models give the length in metres with a decimal point, such as the DSB 4.3 SR, older series give centimetres plus a letter such as T, GP, HP or IRB.
Our model records list 28 models: 25 inflatables and three rigid inflatables. Build years run from 1969 to 2018, and none is still in production. Lengths range from 2.3 to 7.8 metres, with half of them between 3.5 and 4.7 metres. The smallest are the 230 T and 260 T tenders, the 260 T built until 2018. The HP series is among the oldest, with the 350 HP recorded from 1969. The GP series spans 3.8 to 5.3 metres, the IRB models 4.2 and 4.7. SR inflatables run from the 2.8 SR to the 6.5 SR, and the 5.6 SR, 7.5 SR and 7.8 SR are rigid inflatables.
A maker of life rafts takes fabric and seams seriously, and many DSB boats have been in use for decades. An older one is worth what its tubes are worth: whether seams and valves hold air, how the fabric has taken sun and storage, and whether repairs were done properly. On the larger SR models, the outboard and the hull add much of the value.

market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the DSB 350 HP, DSB 380 HP,
DSB 420 HP by DSB Deutsche Schlauchboot GMBH and 3 more series there is no list price left.

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the DSB 7.8 SR, DSB 5.6 SR, DSB 7.5 SR by DSB Deutsche Schlauchboot GMBH series:
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered,
porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
For the DSB 260 T, DSB 2.8 SR, DSB 3.5 SR by DSB Deutsche Schlauchboot GMBH and further series:
Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered,
UV ageing is wear.
