Dutchcat; cover, cost and conditions
Dutchcat is a young company from Bunschoten-Spakenburg in the Netherlands, built around one idea: an economical motor catamaran. Its first boat was unveiled at the end of summer 2016. The Dutch studio Vripack worked on the design, and the hulls are built by Zaadnoordijk Yachtbuilders in Heerenveen. At the Düsseldorf show the boat was nominated for European Boat of the Year 2017. What sets it apart is the drive train. Buyers could choose pure electric drive with twin 48-volt Kräutler motors, Yanmar diesels, or a hybrid of the two.
Our model records hold one design for the brand, the Dutchcat itself, filed as a motor catamaran. It is 12.55 metres long, 4.90 metres wide according to the boating press, and draws only 0.85 metres. The listed build years run from 2021 to 2024, so none of it reaches into the most recent years in our data. The GRP hull came in two shapes: Comfort, with round bilges and shallow keels for quiet displacement cruising, and Sport, a conventional planing form with spray rails. On electric power the top speed is a little over eight knots; with the largest diesels the boat reaches about 22 knots.
On a used Dutchcat the systems deserve as much attention as the hull. Ask for the battery history, check the state of charge cycles and the condition of the charger and generator if a hybrid set is fitted. The shallow draft makes canals, rivers and inland lakes natural cruising grounds, which also means locks, fenders and rubbing strakes see a lot of work. Twin hulls mean twin sets of everything below the waterline, so a haul-out should include both shafts or pods and both rudders. A survey by someone who knows electric drives is money well spent.

On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
