The Edel boats go back to the French designer Maurice Edel, and specialist databases list the catamarans under Edel Catamarans, France. Small monohull sailing boats were first simply numbered from Edel 2 to Edel 6, later given three digit names such as Edel 545, 600 or 730, which roughly give the length in centimetres. On the Edel Cat cruising catamarans the number follows the length in feet instead: an Edel Cat 35 measures 10.6 metres.

Our model records list 24 Edel models: 14 multihulls, eight small sailing boats and two sailing yachts. Build years run from 1965 to 2006, and none is still in production. Lengths range from 5.4 to 13.7 metres, with half between 6.7 and 10.9 metres. The monohulls from Edel 2 to Edel 730 measure 5.4 to 7.8 metres, and the 8.3 metre Edel 820 is the longest of them. The catamarans start with the 8.3 metre Edel Cat 26, followed by the Cat 33, the Cat 35 in three versions and the 10.9 metre Cat 36, with the Cat 42, 43 and 45 of up to 13.7 metres at the top. The Edel Tri 22 trimaran and the Aventure 11 Power complete the list.

The small monohulls are lake and coastal boats that are easy to trail, while the Edel Cat models offer family space with little draft. All are now used boats, and value depends on condition: the joints between hulls and bridge deck, the age of sails and rigging, the engines and the gear added by successive owners.
