Excite Cat boats come from Costa Blanca Catamarans in Spain, and the range was introduced in 2002. Naval architect Philippe Subrero drew the lines. The larger Excitecat 1010 was built in Cartagena on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The builder meant them as multipurpose catamarans, neither pure cruisers nor pure fishing boats but a little of both. Power comes from diesel inboards with V-drives, between 75 and 240 hp per engine depending on the version. The 810 is easy to recognise by its compact twin hull with a cabin: a double berth in each hull, the head in the starboard hull and an optional flybridge above the helm.

Our model records hold three designs, all power catamarans. The Excite Cat 810 Fly is listed from 2002 to 2014, the longest running line, while the Excite Cat 810 without flybridge runs from 2003 to 2012. Both measure 8.08 metres. The Excitecat 1010 joins in 2004, stays in the list until 2012 and, at 9.65 metres, is the largest boat. No line reaches the latest build years, so every boat on the market today is second hand. Lengths sit close together, between just over eight and just under ten metres.

Two hulls mean two of everything below the waterline. On a used Excite Cat both V-drives, shafts, propellers and stern glands want inspection, and engine hours should be roughly even between the two diesels. The bridge deck between the hulls takes the slamming in a short sea, so look for stress cracks and soft spots there and around the flybridge mounts. A catamaran this wide needs a suitable berth or a hardstanding spot, which is worth sorting out before purchase. Many of these boats have spent years in Mediterranean sun, so canvas, window seals and deck hatches often need renewing.
