Fibrasonic; cover, cost and conditions
Fibrasonic Marine Ltd. was the seed from which the British motorboat brand Sealine grew. Tom Murrant, an aircraft engineer and keen boater, founded the company in 1972 near Bobbington in Staffordshire. Its first boat was a 23 ft glassfibre family cruiser with a sterndrive. The firm was renamed C-Line in 1978 and Sealine in 1979, and under that name it became a well known British motorboat brand during the eighties and nineties. After several changes of ownership it has belonged to HanseYachts since 2013, and Sealine models have been built in Germany since 2014. The boats listed under Fibrasonic in our data date from those early years and already carry the Sealine name.
Our model records list three designs, all motorboats. The Sealine Snoopy measures 2.9 metres, the Sealine Sunny 3.8 metres and the Sealine Sunswift 4.2 metres. All three are recorded with build years from 1975 to 1982, and none reaches recent build years, so every boat around today has more than four decades behind it. At this size a motorboat usually serves as a tender, a fishing boat or a runabout for lakes, rivers and sheltered coastal water. With nothing longer than 4.2 metres, the whole range stays easy to move on a road trailer.
A small boat from the seventies lives or dies by its transom and its floor. Check the transom for softness where the outboard bracket is bolted through, since water creeping into the core is a common problem on older small craft. Look under the floor for wet foam or rotten stringers, and tap the hull for hollow areas. Gelcoat on boats of this age is often chalky and crazed, which is cosmetic unless the cracks go deeper. The trailer matters just as much: rollers, lights, tyres and wheel bearings should be sound, and the winch strap should not be frayed.
