Flatacraft is a British maker of inflatables and rigid inflatable boats, which the UK RIB community places at its own works in Poole on the south coast. Most second hand listings carry the Force name. The logic is simple: Force plus a number from 2 to 7, and the higher the number, the bigger the boat. Alongside sit stand-alone names such as Divemaster, Enforcer 950, Merlin 15, Explorer and Sportsman.

Our model records list 13 Flatacraft designs: ten inflatables and three RIBs, the Divemaster, the Enforcer 950 and the Force 7. Eight models belong to the Force family, from the Force 2 The Shuttle through the Force 3, 3 GT, 4 GT, 4 Magnum, 5 and 6 to the Force 7. Build years run from 1981, with the Force 6, to 2000, and almost every line starts in 1989 or later. Lengths range from 2.59 metres for the Force 2 The Shuttle to 9.5 metres for the Enforcer 950. Seven models stay under 5 metres, three sit between 5.2 and 6.4 metres and three between 7.32 and 9.5 metres.

With the newest boats dating from 2000, tube condition is the first thing to check: seams, valves and fabric age even when the hull is sound. The small Force boats work as tenders and fold away on deck or in the car, while the larger RIBs travel on a trailer or sit on a mooring. Rinsing with fresh water and storing out of the sun add years to any tube.
