Hovercraft doo; cover, cost and conditions

The company name gives away its origins. Blaž Stepišnik founded Hovercraft d.o.o. in Slovenia in 2003, and the first products were sport hovercraft. The firm is based on a business park in Šenčur. Today it makes double walled inflatable structures from Hypalon, the chlorosulphonated polyethylene used on many tough inflatables, along with rubber and PVC. It became known for the Electricat, an inflatable houseboat with electric drive for lakes and rivers. The look is unmistakable: two air filled hulls carry a flat platform with a cabin, and the cabin roof doubles as a second deck for lounging. Beyond leisure boats, the company also builds kit for rescue work, construction transport and military use.

Our model records list three designs: two motor catamarans and one inflatable. The Electricat 450 is 4.5 metres long and 2.4 metres wide, takes up to six people and 600 kilos of luggage, and runs on an electric motor of up to 8 kW. The larger Electricat Big Six measures 6 metres, offers about 12 square metres of deck plus another 6 on top, sleeps six and reaches 13 knots. Both houseboats appear from 2018 and run into the most recent build years. The third design, the SEAtrailer, is listed as a 4.5 metre inflatable built from 2016 to 2021. Lengths therefore range from 4.5 to 6 metres.

Inflatable hulls reward a bit of routine care. Rinse them with fresh water after use, keep them out of strong sun when possible and let them dry fully before packing away, because trapped moisture and UV are what age a fabric hull. Valves deserve a regular look and a check that they seal. When buying a used Electricat, pump it up the evening before and see whether it still holds pressure the next morning; then look at the seams, glued patches and the points where the platform is fixed to the tubes. With electric drive the batteries are the second big question: ask about their age, how many seasons they have run and how they were stored over winter. These boats are mostly used on calm inland water, where a slow, quiet cruise and a night at anchor are the whole idea.

What this means for the cover

As the Hovercraft Electricat 450 and Hovercraft Electricat Big Six by Hovercraft doo series are

still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable.

Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

For the SEAtrailer by Hovercraft doo series the market value and the replacement cost often differ

widely.

An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

For the Hovercraft Electricat 450, Hovercraft Electricat Big Six by Hovercraft doo series:

On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,

and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.

For the SEAtrailer by Hovercraft doo series: Even without an engine the rule holds:

a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
