Hudson Yacht and Marine RMI, LLC; cover, cost and conditions

The letters HH stand for two people: Hudson Wang, owner of Hudson Yacht and Marine, and Paul Hakes, a boatbuilder from New Zealand. HH Catamarans was set up in 2012 and belongs to the Hudson Yacht Group. That same year the brand began working with the naval architects Morrelli & Melvin, who draw its catamarans. Building takes place in Xiamen, an island city on the Chinese coast between Hong Kong and Shanghai. The aim is fast, well finished cruising catamarans meant to sail long distances. The story actually starts with a monohull: Paul Hakes built several HH42s to a Judel/Vrolijk design. Since 2022 a diesel electric hybrid drive has been available on some of the catamarans, the HH60 among them.

Our model records list three designs from the yard: one sailing yacht and two sailing catamarans. The HH42 is the monohull, 12.6 metres long and recorded for 2009 to 2015. The catamaran line opens in 2016 with the HH50, which measures 15.19 metres and runs into the most recent build years. The HH60 follows from 2021 at 17.95 metres and is also still in production. So two of the three designs are current, and all of them fall between 12.6 and just under 18 metres. There are no small boats from this brand in our records.

Boats like these are built to sail far, and that shapes how they are looked after. On a performance catamaran the rudder bearings, steering linkages and any boards see heavy loads on long passages and want regular inspection. Composite hulls of this kind should be surveyed by someone who knows cored construction, with attention to the bridgedeck and the joins between hulls and deck. A hybrid drive adds batteries, inverters and electric motors to the usual engine checks; their age and service history matter as much as engine hours. Buyers of a used HH should ask for the full log of passages, rig inspections and sail inventory, since a boat that has crossed oceans has worked its gear hard. The HH42, built in small numbers as a monohull, is a different animal again: check the keel attachment and the rig with the same care.

What this means for the cover

As the HH50 and HH60 by Hudson Yacht and Marine RMI, LLC series are still in production,

parts are available and repair costs are predictable.

Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

For the HH42 by Hudson Yacht and Marine RMI,

LLC series the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.

An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

For the HH50, HH60 by Hudson Yacht and Marine RMI, LLC series:

On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,

and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.

For the HH42 by Hudson Yacht and Marine RMI, LLC series:

On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:

a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,

and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
