Hydrosport Technologies; cover, cost and conditions
Hydrosport builds rigid inflatable boats in Portugal and sells them as Hydrosport Performance RIBs. What all of them share is an offshore stepped hull: a deep V in glassfibre with 24 degrees of deadrise at the transom and a single step that the yard calls VFi. On top sits a Hypalon tube by Orca, 47 centimetres in diameter on the 737, with synthetic decking throughout. Power comes from outboards, up to 150 hp on the 646 and up to 225 hp on the 737. The step in the running surface and the VFi in the type name are the easiest ways to recognise one.
Our model records list four designs, all rigid inflatables. The oldest is the Hydrosport RIB 636 VFi at 6.36 metres, recorded from 2003 to 2009. Two newer types follow from 2014: the Hydrosport 585 at 5.9 metres up to 2020 and the Hydrosport 646 at 6.46 metres up to 2024. The RIB 737 VFI at 7.37 metres starts in 2022 and is the only one of the four that reaches into recent production. Lengths sit close together, between 5.9 and just under 7.4 metres, a range made for day trips along the coast and on larger lakes.
A stepped RIB rewards regular checks. The tube is the first thing to inspect on a used boat: seams, valves, rubbing strake and any patches, along with signs of UV wear on the Hypalon. The step itself should be free of cracks and impact damage, since it carries much of the load at speed. Outboard hours and service history matter as much as the hull. Most of these boats live on a road trailer, so bearings, brakes and the winch post are worth a look, and a freshwater flush after each salty outing keeps the engine happy.
