Iliad Catamarans; cover, cost and conditions

Iliad Catamarans is an Australian brand. It was set up by Mark Elkington, whose company Multihull Solutions in Mooloolaba, Queensland, has long sold multihulls in the region; the brand itself belongs to Global Marine. The boats are built by Xinlong Yachts in Zhanjiang on the South China Sea to lines by Italian designer Riccardo Bulgarelli. A prototype was launched in October 2017 and ran some 3,000 nautical miles around Asia for testing, and the first production yacht followed in 2019. Iliad builds power catamarans only, drawn as such from the start rather than adapted from sailing hulls. Construction is glassfibre over a dense PVC core, infused with vinylester resin, with aluminium tanks.

Our model records hold one Iliad design, the Iliad 53. It is listed as a power catamaran of 16.37 metres, recorded from build year 2020 and still present in the most recent build years. The yard offers the 53 in three forms: the 53F with flybridge, the 53S without one and with a lower profile for passing under bridges, and the 53E with hybrid electric drive. The 53F runs on two 550 horsepower Cummins diesels, tops out around 24 knots and has a range of roughly 2,500 nautical miles. Smaller and larger designs also belong to the range but do not yet appear individually in our records.

A power catamaran built for long range lives on its systems. Twin diesels, generator, watermaker and, on the 53E, the battery bank and electric motors all need regular service, and a buyer should ask for complete logs for each. A survey of a used Iliad 53 should include the cored laminate below the waterline, the aluminium tanks and their mountings, and the bridgedeck clearance where waves strike. Owners of these boats often cruise for long periods and far from shore, so redundancy in navigation electronics and spare parts on board matter. The flybridge and sedan versions also differ in how much air draft they need, which shapes where the boat can go.

Series by Iliad Catamarans, build years and cover

Iliad 53

Iliad 53 is a cabin catamaran from Iliad Catamarans, built since 2020.

What this means for the cover

As the Iliad 53 by Iliad Catamarans series is still in production,

parts are available and repair costs are predictable.

Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

For the Iliad 53 by Iliad Catamarans series:

On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,

and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
