Jachtwerf De Combinatie; cover, cost and conditions
Jachtwerf De Combinatie is based in Dordrecht and has been building boats since 1936. It started with the Combi boats, working craft for inland shipping and fishing, and the name stayed with the yachts that came later. In the 1960s the yard turned to motor yachts and drew the first Combikotter, a seagoing vessel for long distances and rough water. Alongside it came the Combi Kruiser and the Combi Spiegelkotter, each boat tailored to its owner. Combikotters were built in sizes from 9 to 15 metres. New construction ended in 2010, and since then the yard has concentrated on maintaining and repairing existing yachts. In our records most of the Kruisers carry the German form of the name, Combi-Kreuzer.
Our model records list four designs: three motor yachts and one motorboat. The motorboat is the Combi-Kreuzer jr. at seven metres, built from 1964 to 1973. The Combi-Kreuzer S.R. at ten metres also starts in 1964 and runs the longest, up to 1983. The Combi-Kreuzer-Super at twelve metres is listed from 1965 to 1981 and is the largest of the four, while the Combikruiser GSAK at eleven metres follows from 1975 to 1982. None of them reaches the most recent build years; the whole list spans just under two decades. Three of the four measure ten metres or more, only the jr. stays well below that. The later Combikotters are not part of this data.
A Combi of this age is a used boat with a past, and each one has been looked after differently. Engines of the period have often been replaced or rebuilt, so the paperwork for the current machinery matters more than the original specification. Wiring, tanks and windows deserve a careful look, and so does the bilge under the engine. Many of these yachts spend their lives on rivers and canals, where locks and low bridges set the pace, and a seven metre Combi-Kreuzer jr. handles very differently from a twelve metre Combi-Kreuzer-Super. A survey out of the water before buying is the sensible way to find out what decades of use have left behind, and it gives a solid basis for any refit plans.
