Jachtwerf De Rietschans sits just outside Amsterdam and is known for restoring classic European yachts. In 1991 the yard began building a motorboat of its own, the Beaver. The idea was to answer the objections owners had raised about earlier boats of this kind and to produce something better suited to open water than to sheltered lakes. The hull is hand-laid polyester, while the superstructure is finished in teak and mahogany. That combination makes a Beaver easy to recognise: the long, low lines of a classic launch, plenty of varnished wood above the waterline and a composite hull beneath it.
