Jeantot Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Jeantot Marine is the yard where the Privilège catamarans began. Philippe Jeantot founded it in 1985 in Les Sables-d'Olonne on the French Atlantic coast. Jeantot was a singlehanded ocean racer and the man who created the Vendée Globe, the non stop solo race around the world that still starts from Les Sables-d'Olonne. His catamarans were meant to take a family safely across oceans and stay livable on the way. Their signature is a pod under the forward crossbeam between the hulls that makes room for a large owner's cabin. The yard was sold in 1996 and carried on as Alliaura Marine, keeping the Privilège name.
Our model records list 34 designs built between 1984 and 2008, none of them in the latest build years. Eleven are sailing catamarans: the Privilège 37, 39, 42, 43, 45, 48 and 51, plus the large Privilège 12, 14.70, 18.80 and 65. At 19.4 metres the Privilège 65 is the longest boat of the brand, the Privilège 37 at 11.2 metres the shortest of the cats. Four motor yachts complete the list, the power catamarans Euphorie 40 and 44 and the TransCat 46. At the other end sit 19 rigid inflatables: the Jeantot RIB from 250 to 600, that is from 2.5 to 5.9 metres, in two series built between 1991 and 2000.
A Privilège is built for passages, and many have crossed oceans or circled the globe. On a cat of this age the bridgedeck, the crossbeam and the chainplates take the strain of thousands of miles and are the first things a surveyor looks at. Rudder bearings, saildrives or shaft seals and the deck hardware follow. The small Jeantot RIBs often served as tenders to bigger yachts and live on davits or on deck; their tubes, glued seams and transoms show their age before the hull does.

For the Privilege 37, Privilege 45,
Euphorie 44 Katamaran by Jeantot Marine and 3 more series the market value and the replacement
cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Jeantot 250 RIB, Jeantot 330 RIB,
Jeantot 360 RIB by Jeantot Marine and 16 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Privilege 37, Privilege 45, Privilege 42 by Jeantot Marine and further series:
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For the Euphorie 44 Katamaran, TransCat 46, Euphorie 40 by Jeantot Marine and further series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Jeantot 250 RIB, Jeantot 330 RIB, Jeantot 360 RIB by Jeantot Marine and further series:
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered,
porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
For the Jeantot 250 RIB by Jeantot Marine series: Even without an engine the rule holds:
a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
