Juha Snell is a Finnish yard from Kellokoski, north of Helsinki. Juha Snell built the first boat called Faster in 1978, and every boat of the yard has carried that name since. They are made from welded aluminium plate, self draining and kept afloat by buoyancy chambers even when swamped. A large share of the work is workboats for police, fire brigades and the armed forces, and the leisure boats follow the same principles. A Faster is easy to spot by its bright aluminium and by codes such as CC for centre console, SC for side console and BR for bowrider.

The four motor yachts, the Faster 840, 940, 1070 and 1490, date from 1997 to 2012.

Bare aluminium needs little paint but some attention. Stainless fittings must be insulated from the hull to avoid galvanic corrosion, and the anodes on transom and outboard want checking every season. Welded seams around the keel and chines are where rocks leave their marks. A Faster built for work is often used year round, and in winter ice and salted ramps add their own wear. On jet models such as the 710 BR JET, the intake grid and impeller should be checked after running in shallow water.
