Jupiter Marine International; cover, cost and conditions

Jupiter Marine International builds centre console fishing boats in Palmetto, on Florida's Gulf coast. It goes back to the late 1980s, when Nick Scafidi and fibreglass craftsman Joe Moran drew the Jupiter 31; in 1997 Blackfin founder Carl Herndon took the company over. Its signature is a hull with a planing pad at the stern, which the yard calls Posi-stern, aimed at efficiency and a smooth ride at speed. With the helm amidships, anglers can walk all the way round the console to fish from any side. The number is roughly the length in feet, and Cuddy marks a version with a small bow cabin.

Our model records list 21 Jupiter designs, 17 motorboats and four motor yachts. Seven carry FS, three Cuddy and three HFS, joined by the 25 Bay, 29' T, 32, 34' LX, 39' Express, 41' EX, 41' SB and 43 SF. Seven models start in 2007 and seven in 2011. Six lines reach the latest build years: 30 HFS, 32, 34 HFS, 38 HFS, 41' SB and 43 SF, while nine ended in 2017. Lengths run from 7.95 metres (25 Bay) to 13.14 metres (43 SF).

A Jupiter is built for offshore fishing days and fast runs along the coast. The smaller hulls up to about nine metres go on a trailer, the bigger ones live in a marina or a dry stack. Engines want a fresh water flush after every trip in salt water, and steering, trim tabs and bilge pumps a check at the start of each season. Rinse rod holders and hatches too, as salt crystals block drains.
