Kaasbøll Boats AS; cover, cost and conditions
Kaasbøll Boats is a Norwegian builder of aluminium boats. According to the Norwegian business directory it has built small aluminium boats since 1991, often adapted to what an individual customer asks for. Aluminium makes sense in Norway: a hull like this shrugs off rocks, pontoons and the short, steep seas of the skerries, and it stays light enough for the trailer. The names tell the size. Older boats carry the length in feet, from the Kaasbøll 15' to the 22', while newer ones use centimetres divided by ten, so the 660 is about 6.6 metres long and the 1350 13.5 metres.
Our model records list 30 designs, 29 motorboats and one rigid inflatable, the Raven Rib. Build years start in 2002, and 22 lines reach into the latest build years. Lengths run from 4.4 metres for the smallest Kaasbøll 15' to 13.5 metres for the 1350. The core of the range is the 18 boats between six and eight metres, such as the 605, 660, 700 S, 750 C, 760 and 780, many of them also available with a hardtop and marked HT. Larger are the 860 S, the 900 C and 900 S, the 980 C and the 1200 C at almost twelve metres. Since 2021 the Askeladden at 9.1 metres has joined the line.
An aluminium boat asks for different care than a glassfibre one. Stainless fittings bolted to aluminium need proper insulation, otherwise galvanic corrosion eats the hull around them, and anodes on the transom and the outboard should be checked every season. Welded seams and the keel strip take the knocks from rocks and ramps. In salt water a freshwater rinse after use keeps the paint and the bare metal in good order, and the cabin boats with heating appreciate a dry, ventilated winter berth.

As the Askeladden, Kaasboll 17',
Kaasboll 590 by Kaasbøll Boats AS and 19 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Kaasboll 1350, Kaasboll Raven Rib,
Kaasbøll 19 by Kaasbøll Boats AS and 4 more series the market value and the replacement cost often
differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Askeladden, Kaasboll 17', Kaasboll 590 by Kaasbøll Boats AS and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Kaasboll Raven Rib by Kaasbøll Boats AS series: On an inflatable the cause decides,
not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
