Leidi Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Leidi builds its boats in Pula, at the southern tip of Istria in Croatia. The yard was set up by Marsel Brkić and turns out motorboats for the Adriatic, from the compact Leidi 490 up to the Leidi 990, which the builder itself calls a mini yacht. A shared styling line runs through every size, and the lower deck offers more room than the length would suggest. Cabins and fit-out are arranged to the owner's wishes, and several models carry solar panels to keep the batteries topped up. A number of Leidi 660s are available for hire at Marina Veruda in Pula, so many people first meet the brand on holiday.
Our model records list four designs, all motorboats: the Leidi 600, 660, 800 R and 990. The 660 starts in 2014, the 600 and the 800 R follow in 2016, and the 990 appears from 2017. All four run into the most recent build years, so the whole range is current. Lengths go from 6.6 metres for the 660 to 9.9 metres for the 990; the 600 is recorded at 7.1 metres, longer than the 660, so the model number does not track length exactly. The 800 R measures 8.7 metres. According to the yard, the 990 has a beam of 3.30 metres, two or three cabins, design category B and a choice of one or two Yanmar engines.
A Leidi is built for long days on the Adriatic, often with a night or two at anchor. Salt, sun and rocky anchorages set the care routine: rinse deck and fittings with fresh water, keep an eye on the gelcoat along the waterline and check the anchor gear at the end of each season. On the 990, service records for the Yanmar engine or engines tell a buyer a great deal, and so does the state of the cooling water intake. Solar panels and their wiring should be inspected for corrosion at the connectors. Boats that have spent years on hire can be in fine condition, but their logbook and engine hours deserve a careful read before purchase.
