Maril is a Dutch name for sloops and tenders from Friesland. The yard was based in Koudum and in 2008 merged with the Woudsend sloop brand Antaris to form Aquatec Industries B.V. Hulls are now laid up in a polyester plant in Zwaag and finished in Woudsend. A Maril is easy to spot: the classic Dutch sloop shape, a low profile and an open cockpit with wraparound seating built for a crowd of friends on canals and lakes. The three digit names give the length in centimetres, so the Maril 625 is 6.25 metres long.
Our model records list 18 Maril designs, 14 open motorboats and four cabin motor yachts: the 860, the 880 Cabin, the 890 and the 950 Cruiser. The Maril 625 goes back furthest, to 1995, and nine lines run into the most recent build years. Around the numbered range sit the NXT line (6nxt from 2014, 7NXT from 2015), the 595 and 795 Tenders, the 570 Elektro built from 2011 to 2017 and the Maril 5 Ivory. Lengths run from 5.7 metres for the Maril 570 to 9.54 metres for the 950 Cruiser; nine boats stay under seven metres and five pass eight.
These are boats for calm water and long summer evenings. The smaller sloops live happily on a trailer or on a lift by the house, and most owners take them out of the water for the Dutch winter. Upholstery and canopy last longer when dried and stored indoors, and the electric 570 wants its batteries kept charged through the off season. The cabin models are better suited to a marina berth and weekend trips across the lakes.
