Mongird Yachts Sp. z o.o.; cover, cost and conditions
Mongird Yachts is an independent yard in Poland, founded by the professional sailor Christoph Mongird. Both the head office and the production hall are in Gdańsk. Shipbuilding runs in the family: his grandfather graduated from the naval academy and worked as a marine engineer, and his father, also an academy graduate, specialised in the electrical systems of yachts. The yard builds cuddy cabin boats and tenders. What sets them apart is the look, borrowed from the open motor runabouts of the years between 1930 and 1960. Beneath that period styling the build is thoroughly modern, with a carbon fibre sandwich hull laid up by vacuum infusion.
Our model records hold a single design from the yard, the Mongird 25. This motorboat measures 7.67 metres, has a small cuddy with one cabin and draws 0.95 metres. It is listed from build year 2015 and reaches into the most recent years, so the line is still current. The carbon construction keeps the weight below two tonnes, and the yard quotes a top speed of up to 55 knots. The boat carries CE category C, which means coastal waters, rivers, lakes and canals. No other lines of the brand appear in our records, which makes this a one-boat range with a clear purpose: quick day trips, a run out to a swimming spot, or a fast crossing of a large lake.
A light, fast boat asks for attentive owners. A carbon sandwich hull should be checked for impact marks, delamination and moisture, ideally by a surveyor who knows composite construction, because damage is not always visible from the outside. At 55 knots, steering, engine mounts and fuel lines take real loads, so the service history matters as much as the hours on the engine. On a used example it pays to look at the transom, the hull to deck joint and the condition of the cuddy. Many of these boats are trailed between lakes and coast, so the trailer, its brakes and its rollers deserve a look too.
