Worth knowing
Morrison; cover, cost and conditions
In our records Morrison is a builder of sports and cabin boats. We have no reliable source on where the yard was based, so this page sticks to what the model data shows. The names stand out: instead of numbers, almost every boat carries a title or a nod to tradition, Duke, Baron, Coronet, Piper, Tartan and Edwardian. Only the 2200 Duke adds a figure. These are boats from an era when small cabin boats with inboard or outboard power were built for weekends on rivers, lakes and sheltered coasts.
Our model records list six Morrison designs: five motorboats and one motor yacht. All six share the same build years, 1977 to 1984, so production ended more than forty years ago. Sizes run from the 4.8 metre Piper to the 7.6 metre Edwardian, with the Tartan at 5.1 metres, the Coronet at 5.65, the Baron at 6.2 and the 2200 Duke at 6.8. The Edwardian is the only one listed as a motor yacht. Three of the six stay under six metres, and none reaches eight.
Boats of this size usually live on a trailer or a small mooring and come out of the water for winter. After four decades, the condition of the hull, the wiring and the fuel system matters more than the original specification, so a careful survey pays off when buying. Cabin boats of this age often hide soft spots under the deck fittings; checking the transom around the engine mount is a good first step.

On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Morrison Edwardian by Morrison series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
