Motormarine & MA.MI. brings together the Ma.Mi. yard and Motor Marine Tigullio on the Ligurian Riviera, with bases in Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino. Since the 1970s Ma.Mi. has built the Portufin, a gozzo: the traditional Ligurian working boat that turned into the local boat for days out on the water. Portufin is the Ligurian name for Portofino. The yard pairs a glassfibre hull with superstructures in teak and mahogany, while newer versions are built entirely in GRP. A Portufin is easy to pick out by its woodwork, with cockpit, deckhouse, bathing platform and dashboard all finished in teak. Alongside building, Motor Marine offers yard work, storage, refits and boat hire, and more recently added the MaMi 28, a day cruiser with modern lines.

Decks and trim want regular cleaning with fresh water and a gentle brush, never a hard scrub that opens the grain, and any varnished mahogany needs fresh coats before the finish starts to lift. When viewing a used boat, look at the caulking between deck planks, at soft spots around fittings and at the bond between the wooden superstructure and the glassfibre hull. On the Portufin Vela, mast step, standing rigging and sails deserve the same attention. Most of these boats spend their lives on short coastal hops, so engine hours tend to stay moderate, but a boat kept on a crowded Riviera mooring may show scuffs along the topsides.
