Worth knowing
Naval Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Naval Yachts is based in the Antalya Free Zone on the south coast of Turkey and has been in business since 2008. The yard builds aluminium and steel yachts meant for long passages: explorers, expedition yachts and passage makers, as well as one-off custom projects, refits and repairs. According to the yard, its sheds take new builds of up to 70 metres. The model names explain themselves. XPM stands for eXtreme eXploration Passage Maker, while GreeNaval stands for aluminium yachts with hybrid propulsion. The XPM 78 exists both as a monohull and as a power catamaran; the catamaran was drawn by Michael Schutte, and her aluminium hulls were painted rather than left bare. Metal hulls and a rugged explorer look set the boats apart.
Our model records hold five entries: three motor yachts, one power catamaran and one motorboat. The GreeNaval 60 Hybrid starts in 2017, all the others in 2018, and all five reach the most recent build years. The GreeNaval 60 Hybrid appears twice, once as a motor yacht of 18.25 metres and once as the Naval Yachts GreenNaval 60 Hybrid, filed as a motorboat of 14.3 metres. The XPM 78 V.1 measures 23.9 metres. Above that come two vessels on a different scale altogether, the 38 Mt Day Cruise Catamaran at 38 metres and the 43 Meters Superyacht at 43 metres. No entry is shorter than 14 metres.
Aluminium hulls are light and strong, but they react badly to stray electrical currents and to the wrong metals touching them. On any used aluminium yacht the anodes, the shore power arrangement and the isolation of fittings are worth a careful survey, and paint blisters can hide corrosion underneath. Steel hulls ask the opposite question: where has rust started under the coating? Explorer yachts are built to spend weeks away from a marina, so tankage, watermakers, generators and the tender davits matter as much as the hull. A hybrid GreeNaval adds battery banks and their management system to the list of things to check.

For the GreeNaval 60 Hybrid, Naval Yachts 43 Meters Superyacht,
Naval Yachts XPM 78 V.1 by Naval Yachts series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Naval Yachts 38 Mt Day Cruise Catamaran by Naval Yachts series:
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For the Naval Yachts GreenNaval 60 Hybrid by Naval Yachts series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
