Naviga MBS Oy is based in Lohtaja on the west coast of Finland. The company was founded in 1982 as Lukkarilan Veneet Oy and took the name Naviga MBS Oy in 1998. It builds boats for fishing and for leisure, and not off the peg: the yard says that every boat is finished to the owner's own wishes and requirements, right to the last detail. Building is currently on hold, which the yard puts down to retirement and reorganisation, while the models, the moulds and the brand itself remain in place.

Our model records list four designs: two motor yachts and two motorboats. The oldest are the Naviga 8 S at 8.6 metres and the Naviga 10 S at 10.25 metres, both from the 1994 build year. The Naviga 630 followed in 2002, at 6.3 metres the smallest boat of the brand, and the Naviga Finn Fisherman 1080 arrived in 2004, at 10.8 metres also the longest. All four lines run into the most recent build years in our data. The range is small and has stayed the same for decades, split into two size classes: the 630 and the 8 S for day trips and short outings, the 10 S and the Finn Fisherman 1080 for longer runs through the archipelago. Because each boat was fitted out to order, hardly two are alike.

Boats built for Finnish waters are used to cold water, short summers and long months ashore, so the condition of a Naviga depends a great deal on how it spent its winters. On a used boat, check for moisture in the cabin and around windows, the state of the heater if one is fitted, and any sign of frost damage in the cooling and water systems. The rocky archipelago leaves its marks, so look closely at the keel, the propeller and the underside of the hull for repaired scrapes. Since every Naviga was fitted out to order, ask for a full list of the equipment and electronics, as the layout and kit can differ a lot from one boat to the next.
