Worth knowing
New Zealand Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Five motor yacht ranges are recorded for New Zealand Yachts, among them Spirit 30, 35, 47 and 50 as well as the Spirit / Wavepiercer 33. The years of construction lie between 2000 and 2010. We cover yachts from this period with an agreed value, which applies in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation (new for old).
The agreed value is settled before the policy starts, so that the amount of the settlement is not negotiated only once a claim has occurred. In the Premium tariff full hull cover applies with no age limit. The premium follows the type of boat, value, year of construction, engine output and cruising range; the brand does not enter into it.
Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros remains the basis, graded across Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy is taken out online, above that we assess the individual case. Winter storage, craning and transport are included.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Why is an agreed value settled?
Because it establishes before the loss which value is insured. Settlement is made on that basis, with no deduction for depreciation (new for old) and without any dispute about the current market value.
What details do you need for a quotation?
Type of boat, value, year of construction, engine output and the planned cruising range. The premium results from these details; the brand does not enter into it.

Series by New Zealand Yachts, build years and cover
Spirit 30 is a motor yacht from New Zealand Yachts, built from 2003 to 2010.
Spirit 35 is a motor yacht from New Zealand Yachts, built from 2000 to 2009.
Spirit 50 is a motor yacht from New Zealand Yachts, built from 2003 to 2009.
Spirit / Wavepiercer 33 is a motor yacht from New Zealand Yachts, built from 2000 to 2007.
Spirit 47 is a motor yacht from New Zealand Yachts, built from 2000 to 2007.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
