Nova Luxe Yachts builds power catamarans with electric and hybrid drive. Marc Hawxhurst leads the company as president. The boats are built in Cape Town, South Africa, at Nova Luxe Manufacturing, run by the brothers Allan and Kevin, who have been building commercial catamarans for decades. Nova Luxe also took over the South African builder Scape, which had produced catamarans to designs by Simonis-Voogd. As a licensed Torqeedo reseller, the company converts power catamarans of 35 to 50 feet to electric drive as well. The Elight 44, for example, runs on two 100 kW Torqeedo motors fed by batteries, a range extender and solar panels, and is happiest at seven or eight knots.
