Okean Yachts is a Brazilian builder based in Guarujá, São Paulo state, close to the port of Santos. The company was founded in 2015, with its roots going back to 2012. Its founder, Nercio Fernandes, is a software entrepreneur and a keen sailor. The Milan designer Paolo Ferragni draws the boats and follows each build closely. The trade press notes Kevlar and carbon fibre as key materials in the construction. The range has included flybridge yachts of around 50 feet, a 55-foot express cruiser and the 80 Fly, at a little over 79 feet the largest yacht the yard has built. Italian lines on a Brazilian-built hull sum the brand up.
Our model records list four designs, all motor yachts. The Okean 55 at 16.45 metres is the oldest line, entered from 2016. Three more followed in 2018: the Okean 50 Fly and the Okean 50 X, each 15.12 metres, and the Okean 80 Fly at 23.96 metres. All four lines reach the most recent build years in our records. The whole range therefore sits between just over 15 and almost 24 metres; no Okean is shorter than 15 metres. Fly stands for the flybridge.
Yachts of this size are usually run with professional help, at least for maintenance, and a buyer should ask for the full service history of engines, generators and stabilisers if fitted. Composite structures with Kevlar and carbon reinforcement deserve a survey by someone familiar with such laminates. On a flybridge model, check the upper deck and its supports for cracks and water ingress. A yacht that crosses borders needs her paperwork in order, and a well documented boat with recent surveys moves more easily between countries and marinas.
