Almost every motor yacht on this page carries the Vertens name. It goes back to the yard of Karl Vertens at Winning on the Schlei inlet near Schleswig in northern Germany, known as the Ostsee-Werft. Around 1930 he began building motor yachts in the barn of a country estate, later sailing yachts as well. The yard specialised in wooden boatbuilding, and after it stopped building sailing yachts in 1962 the Vertenskreuzer name passed to its motor yachts. Under Fritz Vertens it also built customs and police launches.

Lengths run from 12 to 27 metres, and half of them sit between 14.4 and 17.2 metres. The number in the name usually gives the length in metres. The Vertens range has 15 models, from the Vertens 12.40 of the 1960s through the 14, 15, 17, HS 13 and HS 16 to the late Vertens 22 and 27 at 22.5 and 27 metres. Nine Vertens-Kreuzer run from 13.6 to 21.0 metres, and the Imperator 41 adds a 12 metre yacht.

A wooden motor yacht of this era is a classic, cruised gently on the Baltic and its inlets and shown with pride.
